Poor Sick Brianna

Little did I realize that I would be spending 5 hours in the Urgent Care last night. Brianna woke up from her nap with a 104 degree fever. The day before she had a 103 degree fever and I had already taken her to the doctor. The nurse practitioner that saw her was an old lady, probably in her late 70's and couldn't stop shaking enough to look in Brianna's ear and throat. I didn't leave very happy when all she gave me was eye drops and couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. She has been sick for over a week and had started getting better before this. She has had nasty eye discharge and a nasty nose and just developed a small cough. I called the doctor again and they suggested that I come in the next morning since it was already 4:00. (I miss my old doctor's office that has special evening hours for sick kids!!!) Or, if I really wanted to I could go to the Urgent Care office!
I'm sure glad I went in! While we were there Brianna's fever spiked to 106.7!!!! I have never seen a number that high and it totally freaked me out! They explained to me that little kids can tolerate a high fever better than adults, but it still made me feel horrible! So this picture is of her with an ice pack on her forhead while we're trying to bring the fever down. The only good thing about this fever is that it made the doctor test more things and we discovered that she has pneumonia. She didn't have much of a cough at all, so it wasn't what anyone was expecting to find with all of the different tests they were running. We're hoping to keep her out of the ER but were told to go if her fever doesn't stay under 101.5 in 24 hours. She just woke up with a fever of 103.7.....I hate that! She also has to go in if I can't get her to eat or drink...and she barely ate a thing yesterday! So, please keep her in your prayers so we don't have to go to the hospital and get an IV!

Oh poor Bri and you! What a miserable situation. It is so scary when a childs temperture gets SO high. I was scared to death when Jacksons reached this high last year. It is not a fun situation. At least they were able to tell you what is wrong. Hopefully things get better soon! You are definitely in our prayers!

It's so hard to have a sick child. I hope she is doing much better now. I feel so bad for them when they can't communicate very well how they feel and it's all a guessing game for us.
