My dad and I went to the Bay Area for the weekend. It really was almost perfect. We left on Thursday morning and flew to San Jose. We checked into our hotel and then drove to Oakland Arena to watch the University of Memphis Tigers totally dismantle the Bradley Braves. We then watched part of the UCLA/Gonzaga game before driving home to finish it on TV.
Friday was filled with all kinds of tourista stuff:
A cruise around the bay that included Alcatraz
The Golden Gate Bridge (I appreciated that a lot!)
Giradelli Square
Fresh seafood at The Fisherman's Wharf.
Cinatown
SBC Ballpark
This is the Bay where Barry hits his homeruns.
On Saturday morning we went to the Oakland Temple.
What a view!
And then we watched the worst college basketball game I have ever seen! (enough said)
Sunday was probably my favorite day of the trip. After attending an absolutely wonderful regular block of church meetings (no PEC/Welfare/Ward Council) my dad and I drove down to Monterey. We made a brief stop to take pictuers of the street where Erin was born (she was born in a van on the way to the hospital.)
This was my favorite part of the trip because I convinced my father to tell me stories of his past. He told me that he went trough basic training in Monterey. It was especially fun to see the barracks where he lived. He said they were new when he was here a few years ago.
Here are the ranges where he shot rifles all afternoon.
We then went on 17 Mile Drive thorugh Pebble Beach and several other amazing golf courses.
All in all it was perfect, well almost.
